From previous post. This is the underpainting. I paint in multiple layers, starting with a ground of graduated color. Then the drawing, then laying in other colors. It probably has to do with spending so many years working with Pantone color overlay sheets.
I took a photo because I liked this stage and I know, when I finish painting, it won’t look like this.
